Mastering Greetings in Africa
Greeting is never a difficult task, especially when you're in a happy mood. In Africa, greetings are seen as a sacred and respectful practice, reflecting responsibility and discipline in communication. By greeting one another, we build strong, lasting relationships that have a positive impact on our lives. How well we get along with others is often influenced by the way we interact and show respect. Here’s how you say "hello" in different African languages:
IsiZulu (Southern Africa)Hello: "Sawubona" (for one person) / "Sanibonani" (for multiple people)
Setswana (Southern Africa)Hello: "Dumela" (formal greeting)
Tsonga (Southern Africa)Hello: "Xewani"
(informal)Swahili (East Africa)Hello: "Jambo" or "Habari"
Chewa (Central Africa)Hello: "Moni" (general greeting)
Kituba (Central Africa)Hello: "Mbote" (general greeting)
Lingala (Central Africa)Hello: "Mbote" (informal) or "Bokoko"
(formal)Igbo (West Africa, Nigeria)Hello: "Ndewo"
(general greeting)Yoruba (West Africa, Nigeria)Hello: "Bawo ni?" (How are you?)
Bambara (West Africa, Mali)Hello: "I ni ce" (formal) or "Abaraka"
(informal)Fula (West Africa, Sahel region)Hello: "Jamm tan" (Peace only)
Oromo (Horn of Africa, Ethiopia)Hello: "Akkam" or "Baga Gammadan" (How are you?)

2025: The Most Impactful Year
As the calendar turns and 2025 dawns upon us, it brings a moment to reflect on the past and embrace the future with purpose and clarity. This New Year isn’t just the beginning of another chapter—it’s the start of a new era spiritually for humanity as a whole. Based on the struggles, inequities, and injustices we have faced, this year marks a time of exposure and reckoning. All those truths that were swept under the carpet will come to light, and those who were constantly wronged or abused will find spiritual and physical justice
This is not like any other year. Everyone will face the outcomes of their actions, reaping what they have sown over the years—from 2024 and prior—whether through the fruits of kindness and integrity or the consequences of harm caused
However, 2025 is also a year for growth and success, provided one is willing to rise to the challenge. Success will require picking up one’s socks, embracing discipline, and committing to hard work—especially from within. The heart, soul, and mind will matter more than material possessions, although accumulating material wealth remains important to maintain balance in one’s life
This year, let’s align our inner and outer worlds for a truly transformative journey ahead. Let’s continue healing and become our best versions, and note that healing isn’t linear but forever continuous
